YOUTH CULINARY AND LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
Chef Rene’s Youth Culinary and Leadership Academy, a 3 month program for at-risk youth, provides comprehensive introductory knowledge and training in the field of culinary arts. Incorporated with the culinary arts and skills component, the program introduces related math and employable skills, respect for program participants and instructors, promoting a team environment, proper sanitation / personal hygiene, personal safety, as well as safety of each guest through leadership exercises and skills.
Chef Rene’s Youth Culinary and Leadership Academy through its culinary and classroom setting and curriculum, works with students in developing personal objectives including self-esteem and self-confidence, managing their personal risks, setting and achieving goals, making decisions effectively, physical and out of class skill development. We incorporate social objectives including being able to work in a team, taking on leadership opportunities, conflict resolution skills, listening skills, and engagement with community through leadership workshops. We use environmental awareness and skills that include knowledge and interest in the local environment using local community resources.
The keys to Chef Rene’s Youth Culinary and Leadership Academy’s successes are to maintain caring and sustained relationships with our students. By building a sense of trust and having the time to communicate the complexity, frustrations, and positive aspects of their lives in and out of the Academy, our instructors will have created a strong relational base and platform to be a source of enduring and cherished advice to the students. From the base of a caring relationship, we can help students form realistic and reachable career, personal, and educational goals. The most motivating goals are those that are within our reach if we exercise some effort. Our teachers will get opportunities for learning students well and care deeply about their well-being enabling them to help our students reach their goals. Chef Rene’s Youth Culinary and Leadership Academy’s will consist of short activities and work on extended projects that span several classes. Each day will feature a theme that unifies all activities and projects that builds over time to form a unified curriculum. Our community-building activities will break up the sessions and keep the participants focused, motivated and get them to work as a team as part of the leadership workshops

At–Risk Youth and their families residing in the San Francisco Bay Area face many challenges that place them at greater risk for increased violence, drug abuse and incarceration. Interventions should alter this behavior in ways that reduce their delinquency and improve their chances to prosper as productive citizens. There are very few organizations dedicated to the cause of assisting youth with vocational and leadership skills in the San Francisco Bay Area. Chef Rene’s Youth Culinary and Leadership Academy helps the youth referred by State of California and County Juvenile Departments to successfully complete the program. Without these opportunities, the State of California could spend more money on committing these youth to the Juvenile Department
Chef Rene’s Youth Culinary and Leadership Academy targets any youth referred by the State of California and County Juvenile Departments and their families. Chef Rene’s Youth Culinary and Leadership Academy provides offenders with specific opportunities to focus on developing their own self-image, academics, character, and employment by offering vocational training, individual counseling, employment readiness, leadership workshops, field trips and much more. It is our hope that at least 85% of our students become successful.
Over time, Chef Rene’s Youth Culinary and Leadership Academy will be the positive learning environment that will be an invaluable resource to young people, aspiring mentors and the community at large.
